Kowalick, Porter Among Leaders at West Texas Amateur

Wichita Falls native and Midwestern state golfer Colton Kowalick and Seymour native Matt Porter are among eight players under par in the Open Flight of the West Texas Amateur, a Texas Golf Association event at the Wichita Falls Country Club.

Kowalick, a Rider High School graduate, shot a bogey-free 69 in an afternoon round at the Country Club, with birdies on the 5th and 9th holes, after starting on the back nine.

Porter, who plays college golf for McMurry, balanced four bogeys with five birdies for a 1-under round of 70 on the par-71 course.

The Open Flight leader is Wes Artic of Kingswood, Texas, who shot a 5-under-par 66 that could have been even better if he hadn't recorded his first bogey of the day on his final hole at the par-four 18th.

In the Senior (55+) Flight, Tom McGraw and Jordan Conway are tied for the first-round lead after shooting matching 70s, while in the Super-Senior (65+) Flight, Wichita Falls native Bill Holstead also shot 70 for a 1-shot lead.
