The Midwestern State cross country squad is picked to finish as runner-up in the race for the 2014 Lone Star Conference Championship according to league coaches, sports information directors and selected media members as released Thursday afternoon.
The Mustangs return 10 runners off of last season's team which claimed three meet wins and carried national ranking throughout much of the season reaching as high as No. 16.
The team is led by two-time All-Lone Star Conference performer Michelle Krezonoski who is joined by fellow seniors Gabby Ruiz, Danielle Chavarria, Kim Krezonoski, Cara Mack, Emma Ramirez and Lucia Trejo.
Other returners include juniors Brittany Adams, Ana Lopez and Maira Salinas and sophomores C.J. Frizzell and Maranda Rodriguez.
Koby Styles returns for his eighth year at the helm of a program which claimed a South Central Region title in 2011 and four consecutive LSC championships in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The Mustangs advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships finishing 15th in 2008, 17th in 2010 and 11th in 2011.
Two-time defending league champion West Texas A&M is the popular pick to repeat in 2014 claiming 16 first-place votes and 120 total points followed by MSU with two first-place votes and 105 points.
Tarleton State (86 points) is picked third followed by Eastern New Mexico (70), Angelo State (56), Texas A&M-Commerce (45) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (22).
