WCS Football Coach Leaving for Kirby

Wichita Christian School will need a new head football coach and athletic director this coming season.

Kyle Davenport told Newschannel 6 Friday he is leaving the Stars after five seasons, which saw the team's win totals increase each year. Davenport's teams finished 10-41 in his tenure at Wichita Christian, increasing from a winless debut season, to a 4-7 playoff season last fall.

He'll be a coach and teacher at Kirby World Academy, which feeds into Hirschi High School, where Davenport was an assistant before joining Wichita Christian in the spring of 2009.

Wichita Christian School did not return calls or emails by Friday night about their search for a new coach. Training camp opens August 4th.
