Back to School: Barwise Renovations

The renovations being made to the Barwise Leadership Academy are almost complete.

"We will be bringing in more lockers that will be in place pretty soon.  It's just the finalizing in terms of the cleaning.   There's some signage that we need to look out there and change that," said Barwise Leadership Academy, Principal Omar Montemayor.

Now that Zundy Junior High School students will merge with the students at Barwise for the 2014-2015 school year, the school colors are now green and gold.

"Green which was Barwise, that was one of their colors, so that remains a color.  Gold was one of the colors that we had for Zundy and so now we're green and gold," said Montemayor.

6th graders will now be students at Barwise which was once a school for 7th and 8th graders. The 6th grade students will even have a hallway of their own in the renovated Barwise building.

"The curriculum has been a tremendous change.  Now that we're being able to merge the teachers together, it's a big change, but there's a lot of excitement in that.  I think it's a strong group and we're just ready for the excitement, "said Montemayor.

When school begins on Monday, August 25th, over 800 students will become Barwise Leadership Academy Eagles.

A piano and physics class for will be added to the curriculum this school year.

Barwsise teachers were even on hand on Wednesday, getting a head start.

"We're merging two strong academic cultures, so for me there's excitement," said Montemayor.

Renovations to the Barwise Leadership Academy started immediately after this past school year ended.

Zundy Junior High School has a new name, Zundy Elementary.

The Wichita Falls I.S.D. school board has not decided what it plans to do with Alamo Elementary and Sam Houston Elementary.
