One Man Dead in Single-Engine Plane Crash

One man is dead following a plane crash at Lake Murray State Park.

A 1967 Piper Cherokee single-engine plane went down in Ardmore around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 16, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The plane went down 1 mile south of the Ardmore Downtown Executive Airport in Carter County.

The 63-year-old pilot died in the crash, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. A 58-year-old passenger was airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. The passenger is listed in critical condition.

The plane was in the Ardmore area for repairs. Mechanics were working on it, and then took it out for a test flight, according to State Troopers.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash. The names have not been released at this time.
