Heightened Expectations for Henrietta

Henrietta will have some of the highest expectations of any team in Texoma.

Coming off their most successful season since 2009, the Bearcats will return fifteen starters from last year's team, including eight on offense and seven on defense.

Despite a tough new district with eight teams and just four playoff spots, Henrietta is confident they will compete for the title.

"Of course we have high expectations," said Head Coach Byron West. "We strive to be at the top of our district any time we're there, but with the kids we have coming back and the experience we have, we hope to be at the top of our district."

"Last year [at this time], we were no where close to where we're at right now," said senior lineman Zach Bloodworth. "We're so much further than we were last year, we came together as a team last year."

"I think we will step up and go pretty far," agreed fellow senior lineman Grady West. "A bunch of those guys are going to come up and help us out a lot."

One of the starters they have back is their quarterback, Riley Watson. He won Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors last season after taking over early in the year.

Coach West talked about what it meant for Watson to have district, and playoff, experience coming into this season.

"He had three quarters of the year last year as the starter," West said. "It's invaluable to have a guy with experience back there, so he finally has that under his belt. He lead us through to the playoffs last year. He knows what to do, he knows how to act, and that's a big key for us."

Getting the taste of a playoff victory last season left the Bearcats hungry for more and ready to get back to level of success they had last season.

"It was really awesome winning a playoff game," Bloodworth said. "I'd never won a playoff game, so that was the first one last year. I hope we can do it again this year, it would be real fun."

The season opens up August 29th at home against the Electra Tigers.
