Midwestern State kicks off exhibition play with a men's and women's soccer doubleheader Wednesday night at the MSU Soccer Field.
The 12th-ranked men take on Wayland Baptist at 5 p.m. followed by the women against Hardin-Simmons at 7 p.m.
The MSU men return nine letter winners and seven starters off of last season's 12-4-2 squad, which reeled a 13-match match unbeaten streak to advance to the the third round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Wayland Baptist posted a 13-3-2 mark with an 8-1-1 record in the NAIA Sooner Athletic Conference in 2013.
The MSU women rolled to a 13-5-3 mark last season, claiming the LSC title with a 7-2-1 record in league play. MSU claimed the conference postseason tournament title taking two matches in penalty kicks over Texas A&M-Commerce and West Texas A&M, advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons. Midwestern returns six starters and 21 letter winners including Daktronics and NSCAA All-Region performers Ashley Cottrell and Morgan Hannon.
The Mustangs take the field for the first time under the direction of Damian Clarke, who ranks amongst the winningest active coaches in NCAA Division II with a 106-31-17 record in seven season at Fort Lewis (Colo.), good for a .744 winning percentage.
Hardin-Simmons posted a 16-2-1 record in 2013 advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III national tournament before bowing to Puget Sound (Wash.). The Cowgirls have claimed the last 11 American Southwest Conference championships.
