New Cast of Characters in Jacksboro

The Jacksboro Tigers will look very different from top to bottom this year. They only return four letterwinners this season, and just five touchdowns' worth of offense.

But, they feel they have a great group of younger guys that will come in and fill those voids quickly.

"We lost a lot but we gained a lot too," says senior receiver and corner Daniel Mabbitt. "I mean, we have young guys but they have a lot of potential. We can be as good as we have the last couple years with them."

"We are very young," says Head Coach Brian Hodnett. "We don't have the Friday night experience that we have had these last couple years, and these young guys are hungry. The ones that haven't experienced Friday nights, they're excited about that, and they're excited about stepping up and continuing what we have started here."

They will have several of their returning starters switching positions this season, including senior quarterback Chase Thompson. He will be switching over from wide receiver, but says he has experience and success with this same groups of guys from when they were younger, and he thinks that they can repeat that at the varsity level.

"I have confidence in these guys, I have been with them all my life," Thompson said. "When we were younger, at lower levels, I took them to go places and I think we can repeat that at the higher levels."

So the confidence is there and the team is working hard. Coach Hodnett says that his message to the team this off season has been simple:

"Make it happen," he said. "We just challenge the guys. There are two types of football players in the world: there are the guys that just stand around and don't make things happen, and just let the game come to them. And then there is the other kind of guys that make tings happen. And we're talking about being a guy that makes things happen."

The Tigers will have to wait a bit to make it happen, with a Week 1 bye. They'll open their season September 5th on the road in Breckenridge.
