Medicaid clients will soon have another option when it comes to transportation. A new bus service will be hitting the streets of Wichita County next week.
The Health and Human Services Commission awarded Texoma Area Para-Transit Service to provide Medicaid services to north Texas. Along with the new service, the company is bringing new jobs.
So far, they've hired almost a dozen new employees out of the Wichita-Clay County area. However, there are still 6 driving positions open.
The bus service has general operations in seven different counties. But the new services will be provided in 16 different counties.
Those counties are: Cottle, Foard, Hardeman, Wilbarger, Baylor, Wichita, Archer, Young, Jack, Clay, Montague, Wise, Cooke, Grayson, Collin and Fannin. About 55,000 people will benefit from the services. Those services will provide those individual with transportation to doctor visits, or health care centers.
It is for non-emergency transportation. Those rides will be free of charge to those qualified individuals. However, they will need to schedule the ride 24 hours in advance.
The services are based out of Sherman, Texas. The TAPS Board of Directors will meet Wednesday, August 27, to put final touches on the plans. The rides for the new services will begin September 1. Training classes for those new drivers will be on September 2.
