MSU Cross Country Regionally Ranked

Midwestern State begins the season ranked seventh in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association South Central Region rankings released Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs closed the 2013 campaign with a 10th-place showing in the regional meet after taking third in the Lone Star Conference championships.

Midwestern returns six seniors including Kim and Michelle Krezonoski, Danielle Chavarria, Emma Ramirez, Gabby Ruiz and Cara Mack off of last season's squad and three juniors including Brittany Adams, Ana Lopez and Maira Salinas back from a seasoned squad.

The Mustangs boast a freshman trio of Angela Dees (Kaufman High), April Peña (Denton High) and Angela Powers (Paradise High).

MSU, which was picked third in the LSC Preseason Poll, trails defending regional champion Adams State (Colo.), Western State (Colo.), Metro State (Colo.), West Texas A&M, Colorado-Colorado Springs and Colorado Mines in the preseason rankings which are rounded out by Fort Lewis (Colo.), Dallas Baptist and Tarleton State.

The Mustangs open the 2014 campaign with the 4K Strohman Dental/MSU Stampede set for Saturday, Sept. 13 at the former Hawk Ridge Golf Course.
