Public Hearing Without The Public

Burkburnett residents got a chance to say what they wanted about a proposed property tax rate increase. The only problem is no one showed up.

On the table is a 3.5 cent tax rate hike. Wednesday night was the second and final public hearing for citizens to voice their approval or displeasure of that tax hike. Not one citizen showed up but one Burkburnett official took that as a compliment.

"I think that's just a sign of a very educated community that understands the economic impact that we're under currently," said Burkburnett City Manager Mike Whaley.

Commissioners will vote on that increase on Monday during a regularly scheduled meeting.
