MSU Soccer Beats UCCS

Andrew Power continued on his early season scoring binge leading Midwestern State to a dominating 2-0 win over Colorado-Colorado Springs Saturday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Field.

The Mustangs won their second straight match to move to 2-1 and play host to Lubbock Christian Monday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The senior midfielder from Waterford, Ireland headed in Paul Sunderland's well struck corner kick to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage in the 19th minute, and then junior forward Albert Rodriguez put the game away with his second tally of the season in the 40th minute of play.

Power has scored in each of the Mustangs' three matches this season opening his account with two scores against Fort Lewis in the opener then converted a penalty kick against Colorado Mesa. With the explosion, he has almost matched his input for all of last season when he knocked in five goals and dished out a pair of assists.

Rodriguez, a transfer from Northwood (Texas), also scored in his second consecutive game.

But it wasn't all about the attack for the Mustangs, who controlled the run of play producing a lopsided 20-3 edge in total shots.

Junior goalkeeper Nick Petolick needed to make a single save to notch his first clean sheet of the campaign and 10th of his career.

UCCS junior midfielder Sebastian Hertzberg accounted for two of the Mountain Lions' three shots, while freshman forward Jake McAllister placed the lone shot on frame.

Colorado-Colorado Springs slipped to 0-2-1 on the season.
