MSU's Burnette Earns LSC Honors

Midwestern State's Courtney Burnette garnered Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors as released Wednesday afternoon.

The 5-5 redshirt-freshman goalkeeper stretched her scoreless streak to 410 minutes posting shutouts against Western State Colorado, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Oklahoma Christian to help the Mustangs to a 2-0-1 week.

The Irving product leads the LSC in goals against average (0.35), saves (40) and shutouts (4).

Burnette tallied six saves against WSC, seven versus SWOSU and five against OC to improve her season save percentage to .952.

Angelo State sophomore midfielder Haley Mendel scored a hat trick against Colorado Mesa to earn offensive player of the week honors. She has tallied six goals through her first four games this season.

Midwestern State plays host to Lubbock Christian Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

     The MSU Texas softball team gave up three multi-run home runs en-route to an 8-0 loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday at Mustangs Park.
