Helicopter Crash Near United Regional Health Care System

A patient being transported to United Regional Health Care System in a Air Evac helicopter from Waurika, Oklahoma died early Saturday morning after the helicopter crashed and burst into flames.

The incident happened at 1:56 a.m. near downtown Wichita Falls. Wichita Falls Fire Department told Newschannel 6 three crew members were injured when the chopper went down near 9th and Grace Streets.

The pilot was taken to United Regional where his condition is listed as critical but stable. The flight nurse and flight paramedic were sent to the Burn Unit at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where they are both listed in critical condition. 

Officials told us 9th Street from Brook to Holiday will be blocked off as officials, including the Federal Aviation Administration and National Travel Safety Board investigate the cause of the crash.

The incident caused power outages in the area. The North Texas Dialysis Center is currently without power and is closed for repairs. Patients needing assistance can call (940)923-7889 or (940)631-7601.
