Mustang Men Finish 7th in MSU Invitational

The Midwestern State Mustangs had two players in the top ten individually, but finished in a tie for seventh at the Midwestern State Invitational at the Wichita Falls Country Club Tuesday.

MSU got a two-under-par 70 from sophomore Thomas Smith of Stoke-on-Trent, England, and a 1-over 72 from senior Derek Oland of McKinney, Texas/Boyd in final round action as the Mustangs posted a 295 for the round and a final of 883. Smith finished eighth, while Oland was tied for ninth.

Cameron won the team event with a 294 in the last round to finish at 859. Northeastern State (Okla.) was second at 862, while Southern Nazarene (Okla.) was third at 868 in the 15-team event.

MSU was tied with Dallas Baptist for the seventh spot.

"The course was set up beautifully and the weather was great, but we didn't take advantage of it," said MSU Coach Jeff Ray. "You've really got to go low with those conditions and we didn't."

Junior Ian Gallagher of Highland Village, Texas/Flower Mound Marcus carded a 4-over 75 in final round action for a 226 for the Mustangs.

Sophomores Jared Baker of Holliday, Texas and Luke Thomas of Plano, Texas/West, both turned in a 7-over 78 on Tuesday, to match each other at 230.

Southeastern Oklahoma State's Zach James won the individual title, coming in with an even-par 71 on Tuesday to finish at 6-under 207. Cameron's Dylan McClure was two strokes back at 4-under 209 after carding a two-over 73 in the final round.

The Mustangs also played a second team in the event that finished with a 937.

Junior Brandon Banks of Irving, Texas/Ranchview posted a 77 on Tuesday for a 225, as sophomore Colton Dorion of Surry, B.C., Canada tallied a 76 for a 229.

Redshirt freshman Tom Clinton of Sydney, Australia added a 75 for a 237, with junior Colton Kowalick of Wichita Falls, Texas/Rider posting an 85 for a 246. Freshman Ryder Dillard of Munday, Texas scored an 85 for a 253 in the tournament.

The Midwestern State men have one final fall tournament next Monday and Tuesday as they play at Texas A&M-Commerce's The Classic at The Tribute in The Colony, Texas.

Moore Leads Mustangs to 3rd-Place Showing in Oklahoma Intercollegiate

Midwestern State senior Brenna Moore fired a 1-under-par 71 to finish second individually and lead the Mustangs to a third place finish at Cameron's Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tuesday.

The senior from Burkburnett posted a two-day total of 1-under 143 on the par 72, 5921-yard Fort Sill Golf Club to finish in a tie with Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perea. Ivon Reijers of Redlands Community College (Okla.) shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to win by five strokes at 6-under 138.

Moore also paced the Mustangs to a 296 team total for the second round for a 595 total for third. MSU finished three strokes behind Newman (Kan.) at 592 and two off of Tarleton State at 593.

MSU got an outstanding round from junior Kynze Mann of Sanger, Texas, who fired a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, while sophomore Sierra Campbell of Rio Rancho, N.M. tallied a 3-over 75.

Campbell placed seventh at 4-over 148, while Mann was 16th at 6-over 151.

Sarah Moore, a freshman from Burkburnett, Texas, carded a 5-over 77 in the final round for a 9-over 153. Kellie Martin of Burleson, Texas posted a 79 to finish at 157.

"The girls battled against some good competition," said MSU Coach Jeff Ray. "Brenna came through this week and Kynze played her heart out and got a nice score."

The Mustangs women ended their fall season with the Oklahoma Intercollegiate. Spring play will resume in February.
