MSU: Men's Soccer Up to 2nd in Region

Mustangs Surge to Second in South Central Region Rankings

Midwestern State moved up two spots into a tie for second in the latest South Central Region rankings released by the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Committee Wednesday afternoon.

The rankings, however, do not include MSU's results on Monday -- a 2-1 loss to Eastern New Mexico.

The Mustangs (10-3-2) close the regular season with a pair of matches on the road beginning Thursday night at West Texas A&M before heading to Portales to take on Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.

MSU is 1-1-1 against teams in the South Central Region rankings, boasting a win over Colorado Mesa while also playing SEU to a 1-1 draw earlier this season in Wichita Falls.

The top three teams from the South Central Region advance to the NCAA Division II national tournament field set to be announced Monday, Nov. 10 via selection on NCAA.com at 6:30 p.m.

The top team in the region receives an opening round bye and will serve as the host for third round matchups featuring the South Central and West region title games on the weekend of Nov. 22-23. The victors move on to square off for a berth in the Final Four set for Dec. 5-7 at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.

The South Central Nos. 2 and 3 ranked squads meet at the site of the higher seed for the right to battle the top seed.

Colorado Mesa tops the region with a 13-2-1 mark followed by St. Edward's (11-2-1) and MSU, while Regis (Colo.) (11-4) and Metropolitan State (Colo.) (10-5) round out the top five.

Cal Poly Pomona (15-1-1) tops the West Region trailed by Seattle Pacific (Wash.) (14-0-1), California State, Los Angeles (13-2), Azusa Pacific (Calif.) (11-2), Northwest Nazarene (Wash.) (11-3-1), Simon Fraser (8-4-2), California, San Diego (8-4-2) and California State, Dominguez Hills (7-6-2).

Cross Country Drops Another Spot in National Poll

Midwestern State dropped one spot to No. 16 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Top 25 released Wednesday afternoon.

The Mustangs claimed their third team meet victory of the season by taking the East Central Tiger Chase with a total of 36 points easily outdistancing the home standing Tigers, who finished with 66 points.

Senior Michelle Krezonoski led the way covering the 5K course in 19:11.00 closely followed by senior Gabby Ruiz, who clocked a 19:12.00.

Junior Ana Lopez (19:49.00/10th), senior Cara Mack (19:53.00) and senior Kim Krezonoski (20:04.00/13th) closed out the counters for the Mustangs.

The Top 10 remained steady topped by unanimous No. 1 Grand Valley State (Mich.) followed by Adams State (Colo.), Minnesota-Duluth, Western State Colorado, Chico State (Calif.), Hillsdale (Mich.), Augustana (S.D.), Simon Fraser (B.C.), California-San Diego and Northern Michigan.

Midwestern is one of five teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the poll joining No. 2 Adams State, No. 4 Western State Colorado, No. 11 Colorado-Colorado Springs and No. 17 Metropolitan State (Colo.).

The top six finishing teams in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional advance to the NCAA Division II Championships on Dec. 6 in Louisville, Ky.

Midwestern State plays host to the Lone Star Conference Championships on Nov. 8 at the former Hawk Ridge Golf Course in Wichita Falls.
