19-year-old Sentenced for Manslaughter

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison for manslaughter in the 2013 shooting death of a 17-year-old.

Online court records show John P. Santana was sentenced Tuesday in Comanche County District Court after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in September. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors had reduced the charge from second-degree murder and recommended a 14-year prison term with nine years suspended and five to serve.

The Lawton Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/1uuGo9n ) that authorities say Santana shot and killed Deshawn Givens when Givens allegedly tried to rob him during a drug transaction.
