Red River Marines Celebrate the U.S.M.C. 239th Birthday

The Red River Marines Det. #997 of the Marin Corps League in Wichita Falls invited all marines to Lucy Park on Saturday to celebrate the 239th birthday of the United States Marine Corp.

Monday, November 10th actually marks the birthday.  Marines from all over Texoma participated in the cake cutting ceremony.

Newschannel 6 talked to one of the marines in attendance who told us just how important being in the marines means to him.

“It means something that I appreciate more as I've gotten older in age,” said Manuel Esparza of the Red River Marine Corp.

The U.S.M.C. has been a powerful presence in the United States since 1775. Always ready to quickly mobilize in response to threats to our seas, our shores  or our citizens.
