First Snowfall Across Texoma Causes Slick Roadways

Wichita Falls, TX - On Sunday, Texoma received its first snowfall of the winter season and it was not very long before it created some trouble for drivers on the roadways.

Wichita Falls Police responded to an accident on Kell East Freeway from Barnett Road to McNeil Avenue which backed up roads for about an hour to an hour an a half.

Snow covered city streets, roads and highways forcing Wichita Falls Street and TXDOT crews to work throughout the night to make sure roads are clear and also a safer drive.

Officials are asking drivers to slow down and use extreme caution. In these frigid weather conditions it takes alittle more time to brake and turn.

Police are also urging drivers to stay off roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Here are a few things you need to know if you plan on heading out the door:

* Make sure to have a jacket, hat and gloves.

* Try to leave early. Give yourself an extra 10 minutes to make sure your windows from snow accumulation is cleared.

* Check gas level. Best practices is to keep gas at a full tank in case your vehicle is stalled in frigid conditions.
