Last-Minute Shopping

Many people are out and about today in a rush to beat the clock before stores close their doors for Christmas day. About 79 percent of Americans plan on shopping late for Christmas gifts, according to American Express Spending & Saving Tracker.

That's an increase over 75 percent in 2013. That means a hectic day for shoppers, very crowded shops, malls, and super centers. One in four shoppers waiting until deep into the holiday season to shop for items on Christmas lists, according to a study released by the National Retail Federation .

“The traffic is mostly like Black Friday in here throughout the days, so it's pretty busy,” said Frantia Washington, a Best Buy employee.  “A lot more people will be coming in,  and then when we get ready to close, we'll probably be kicking people out because they'll want to keep shopping.”

Nearly 50 percent of people shopping wait until last-minute in order to snag the best deals, according to the American Express Spending & Saving Tracker.
