Mustangs Get Noel Johnson Her 100th Career Win

The Mustangs opened Lone Star Conference play notching milestones and defeating Texas Women's 61-47 on Thursday night at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton.

The Mustangs (10-1, 1-0) notched their 9th straight win, dating back to November 18 versus Texas Wesleyan. The win is also the first Lone Star Conference victory for MSU in the 2014-15 season.

The win also gives head coach Noel Johnson her 100th victory at the helm of the program. Johnson has led the Mustangs since the 2008 season.

"The players knew it was coming and just surprised me with some special Nike ID shoes," Johnson said in the post-game interview. "I'm pretty emotional right now."

Midwestern State was paced by leading scorer Dianna Jones with 14 points and Shambreka Jones adding 12.

"We got shots when we really needed them tonight, especially from Dianna late in the game," said Johnson. "We also got timely rebounds down the stretch from Shatoia (Gober) that really helped."

Despite Shatoia Gober's team-leading 9 rebounds, MSU was beat on the glass by TWU by a 38-33 margin.

The Mustangs used a 13-2 run over the final 4:03 to finally seize the conference opener. The TWU Pioneer's drop to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in LSC play.

MSU returns to action on Saturday afternoon at Ligon Coliseum when Texas A&M-Commerce comes to town. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
