Today, over 800 people gathered at the Wichita Falls Multipurpose Event Center to eat breakfast and celebrate a civil rights legend, Martin Luther King.
"We're celebrating the life and legacy of Doctor Martin Luther King. That's always very important because he is such a great American hero and on the other hand, we also raise money for scholarships," said Larry Nash Director of MLK Center.
Over 28,000 in scholarships were given away to 20 recipients. City leaders expressed the importance on how these awards help push the community forward.
"The community can come together to help these young folks pursue their careers and pursue their education and fortunately this breakfast does that very well," said Mayor Glenn Barham.
The MLK prayer breakfast has been an annual event in the falls for the last 26 years. Nash said that there has been many recipients who have come back and helped give to the Texoma community.
