A Wise County Sheriff's Office K-9 has been shot dead and the man believed to have killed the K-9 is also dead.

According to authorities, a pursuit ensued after a male driver refused to pull over for Montague County Sheriff's deputies after they ran his plates and discovered he had warrants for his arrest. The suspect also showed his firearm to the police. The suspect exited his vehicle and began running at Aujla Road and Picket Run Road, near the Montague/Wise County line.

Authorities called for a K-9 unit to help with the search and Wise County Sheriff's responded.
The K-9, a 2-year-old named Pepper, soon located the suspect and was in pursuit. At some point, the suspect allegedly shot and killed K-9 Pepper. In response, a deputy who was also in pursuit, shot and killed the suspect.
