Fire Blazes Near Burkburnett

A fire burned near the city of Burkburnett Tuesday afternoon, scorching over ten acres of land as firefighters worked to put it out.

A large grass fire blazed under the Red River Bridge. The fire started around 2 p.m. and burned an estimated 35 acres of land.


, the Burkburnett Volunteer Fire Department and the Friberg-Cooper Volunteer Fire Department battled the flames. Officials say it took about two hours to get the flames under control.

The firefighters used a bulldozer to help put out the flames. The bulldozer was used to put in a fire line, and firefighters were able to burn out the rest of the flammable material used to fuel the fire. Firefighters also only used 50 gallons of water.

No injuries were reported, and while the investigation continues, the cause of the fire is believed to have been a cigarette.
