Push For Open Carry & Other Gun Laws

Push For Open Carry & Other Gun Laws

Senator Craig Estes has Authored and Co Authored two separate bills each dealing with different levels of open carry gun rights.

The first of the two is senate bill #11, co-authored by Estes, that pushes for the carrying of concealed handguns on the campuses and certain other locations associated with institutions of higher education. That would mean that people could be carried on all public and college university campuses.

Current law allows those who hold a concealed handgun license to carry their weapons on campus grounds but not inside buildings.

Senate Bill #17, authored by Estes, allows for CHL holders to openly carry their handguns within a holster while in public areas of the lone star state. Current law allows shotguns, rifles and other long range guns to be carried in public but not handguns.

The two bills are slated to be discussed during public hearings in the Texas State House this Thursday. Newschannel6 for updates on when and if these proposals become new Texas laws.
