Mustangs move up to 14th in D2 Media Poll, re-enter WBCA Top 25 at 22nd

 Midwestern State move up three more spots to No. 14 in the latest D2 Media Poll released Tuesday afternoon by the D2 Sports Information Directors of America.

The Mustangs also jumped back into the USA Today Sports/WBCA Top 25 at No. 22 for the first time since carrying the No. 20 position in the Jan. 13th edition of the poll.

MSU claimed its fifth consecutive victory by rolling to an 87-69 win over Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday on the road. The Mustangs have now won 17 of their last 19 games.

Midwestern is one of four teams from the South Central Region to recieve mention in the D2 Media Poll joining No. 5 West Texas A&M, while Colorado Mesa and Lubbock Christian (Texas) are also receiving votes.

Lewis (Ill.) is the unanimous No. 1 pick in the D2 Media Poll while Alaska-Anchorage, Limestone (S.C.), Fort Hays State (Kan.) and West Texas A&M round out the top five.

The Mustangs are also one of four teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the WBCA Top 25 joining No. 6 West Texas A&M while Colorado-Colorado Springs and Colorado Mesa are receiving votes.

Lewis (Ill.) fell one vote shy of unanimous status at No. 1 while Fort Hays State (Kan.), Alaska-Anchorage, Limestone and Livingstone (N.C.) make up the rest of the first five. Livingstone picked up the only other first-place vote.

Midwestern State battles rival West Texas A&M Wednesday night at First United Bank Center in Canyon. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.



Mustangs ranked 23rd in D2 Media Poll, receiving votes in NABC Top 25


Midwestern State dropped six spots to No. 17 in the latest D2 Media Poll released Tuesday afternoon by the D2 Sports Information Directors of America.

The Mustangs also fell out of the NABC Coaches Poll but continued to receive votes.

The Mustangs split a pair of Lone Star Conference games last week falling to Tarleton State at home before rallying to defeat Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday in overtime to move to 18-5 on the season.

MSU remains one of six teams from the South Central Region to receive mention in the D2 Media Poll joining No. 4 Angelo State (Texas), No. 13 Metropolitan State (Colo.), No. 14 Tarleton State (Texas), No. 15 Colorado Mines and No. 17 Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Florida Southern regained the top ranking in the poll after Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) became the last to fall from the unbeaten last week with a loss to Carson-Newman (Tenn.).

The Moccasins picked up nine of the 16 first-place votes, while Augustana (S.D.) (5 first-place votes), Bellarmine (Ky.), Angelo State (1 first-place vote) and Lincoln Memorial (1 first-place vote) rounded out the first five.

The South Central Region boasts five of the top 17 teams in the NABC Division II rankings with Angelo State at No. 4, Metropolitan State at No. 10, Tarleton State at No. 11, Colorado-Colorado Springs at No. 15 and Colorado Mines at No. 17.

Florida Southern (15 first-place votes) took over the No. 1 position, while Augustana (1 first-place vote), Bellarmine, Angelo State and Lincoln Memorial fill out the top five.

Midwestern State takes on West Texas A&M Wednesday night in Canyon before returning to the dome to take on Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. Tipoff on Wednesday is set for 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's start time is slated for 6 p.m.
