Texas Governor to Appoint Replacement Court Judge

The 89th District Court may soon  find itself with a new judge.

The Governor's office received an application today to fill the vacant seat for 89th district court, left behind by the late Judge Mark Price, and will review the application in the coming days.

Article 5, Section 28 of the Texas Constitution requires the Governor to fill the vacancy "until the next succeeding General Election for state officers, and at that election the voters shall fill the vacancy for the unexpired term."

The Office of the Governor will review applications submitted by interested nominees in the coming days. If the Governor's nomination occurs during a legislative session, that person is subject to confirmation by the Senate during that session and cannot take the bench until they are confirmed by the Senate.
