If you do not have it marked on your calendar, Valentine's Day is Saturday. Yes. Its on a weekend this year.
The holiday women adore is considered to be one of America's most expensive holiday's of the year. It's right up there with Christmas and Mother's day.
Newschannel 6 crunched some numbers to see how much you may be spending on your special someone this year.
The National Retail Federation estimates Americans will spend more than $18 billion dollars in 2015. That's up nearly $1.5 billion from last year.
Here's where it directly hits your pockets. The NRF says the average shopper will spend about $142.31 on candy, flowers, jewelry and everything else. Last year, the average shopper spent about $133.91 on that special someone.
So what will most most of you be spending your money on?
- More than 50 percent will buy candy
- Just over 21 percent will gift jewelry
- More than 35 percent will buy flowers
- About 1/3 will plan a special night out
The NRF also said men should expect to spend nearly double the amount their women will spend on gifts.
At the end of the day if it makes them happy, job well done.
