An officer with the Vernon Police Department will be stationed at schools within the district Wednesday, reassuring both students and parents that a recent threat of possible school violence was only a rumor.
According to Vernon Police Chief Tom Wilson, police were advised of a rumor from a high school student of a possible threat of violence Tuesday. The Vernon School District Administration and the police department followed up on the rumor and investigated.
Wilson says the student's family were contacted and interviewed. It was determined that the statement, made by the student, was taken out of context.
