Traffic Stop Leads to the Discovery of over 100 pounds of Marijuana

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Sunday on US-287, yielding over 112 pounds of marijuana, valued at over $682,000.

Around 5:35 p.m., a DPS Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2013 Hyundai passenger car, traveling southbound on US-287, for a traffic violation, near Iowa Park in Wichita County.

The driver of the Hyundai was identified as 55-year-old Douglas Dean Carlson of Watsonville, California. During the traffic stop, signs of criminal activity were observed. During a search of the vehicle, the trooper discovered seven duffle type bags containing over 112 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle.

Carlson was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana over 50 pounds less than 2000 pounds, a second-degree felony and booked into the Wichita County jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from California to Florida.
