DPS Trooper Apprehends Subject wanted in North Carolina Bank Robbery

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Sunday on US-287, which lead to the arrest of a suspected North Carolina bank robber.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., a DPS Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2005 Lexus passenger car, traveling southbound on US-287, for a traffic violation, near Iowa Park in Wichita County.

The driver of the Lexus initially gave the Trooper a false name but later gave his real name of Benoit Constant, 28, of Salisbury, Maryland. While running a check on the driver license it was discovered that Constant had an outstanding warrant from Cornelius, NC for Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.  Constant then attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended a short time later in a residential neighborhood.

Constant was placed under arrest for Fail to Identify - Fugitive from Justice, Evading arrest and detention, and for the outstanding warrant from North Carolina. Constant was booked into the Wichita County jail on all the above charges.
