Threatening Officer Adds Additional Charge

An Iowa Park man who's already behind bars on a charge of Injury to a Child is now charged with Retaliation by Threat.

38-year-old Joe Mark Ross II was arrested back in January for  Injury to a Child.

According to the arrest affidavit, Iowa Park Police were contacted by the Wichita County District Attorney's Office about a jail conversation between Ross and his father-in-law.

The conversation, like others in the jail, was recorded. All conversations are recorded unless it is a private conversation between the inmate and a lawyer.

Authorities say Ross is heard on the recording asking his father-in-law to “beat up” the Iowa Park Police officer who arrested him.

The affidavit indicates that the father-in-law had been to the Iowa Park Police Department several months ago to turn in two 5-inch long knives out of fear he might hurt someone.

Authorities played the recording for the officer, and the newest charge was added.

Ross remains in the Wichita County Jail on bonds totaling $70,000.
