The Wichita Falls Wildcats are back home getting set to play two of the biggest games in franchise history.
With a pair of home wins, they could advance to the Division Finals for the first time ever.
But they know Topeka will be ready to go on Monday night after Wichita Falls handed the 'Runners a 7-0 spanking Saturday night in Kansas.
"They're too good a team, and they will responding," Coach John LaFontaine said Sunday. "They'll be ready, and we know that this next game will be the toughest game.
The Wildcats bounced back from a series-opening 6-2 loss Friday night with one of their best efforts of the season on Saturday. They came at Topeka from the jump, scoring just 2:36 into the game when Nikita Litviak broke in alone and beat Matej Tomek with a great backhand-to-forehand deke.
Shane Kuzmeski added a pair of second-period goals before the 'Cats put it away with four goals in a span of 4:06 in the first half of the third period. Five different Wildcat skaters recorded two-point nights.
Still, coach LaFontaine cautioned Sunday that Topeka will be ready to bounce back the same way.
"We were fired up after what they did to us Friday; they're going to be fired up after what we did to them Saturday," LaFontaine said. "We've got to continue to raise our intensity level, and play the exact same way, and even tighter."
Tickets for Monday and Tuesday's games are available at the KYC Box Office or over the phone at 716-5555.
