Two Wichita Falls doubles teams took medals at the TAPPS State Tennis Tournament on Thursday in Waco.
In Class 2A, the Notre Dame girls' team of Isabel Diaz and Katy Meadows took silver, falling in the championships to 3-time state champions Amy Grunden and Hailey Costin of Denton Calvary 6-2, 6-2. Grunden is actually a four-time champion, teaming with her older sister to win gold as a freshman in 2012, also.
Diaz and Meadows advanced to Thursday's title match by defeating a team from Austin Veritas Academy 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 earlier in the morning.
The Calvary team they faced in the final was the same team that defeated them 6-1, 6-0 two weeks ago at the District 1-2A tournament in Wichita Falls.
In the Class 1A boys' doubles bracket, the Wichita Christian team of Aaron Baker and J.P. Holsberry went one step further and took home a gold medal, defeating Fredericksburg Heritage's team of Lane Sawtelle and David Watterson 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in the championship match.
They advanced to the final by beating Jayton Ensor and Jackson McQueen of San Antonio Cornerstone 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals Thursday morning.
