Graham, TX - Graham Independent School District will soon have to begin the process to replace its superintendent. Dr. Lane Ledbetter, the current superintendent was named the sole finalist for the same position at Midlothian ISD.
Newschannel 6 reached out to Graham ISD's School Board President Win Graham to find out what is next for the school district.
District leaders told us they cannot make a decisions until Dr. Ledbetter formally signs a contract with Midlothian ISD.
"I'm sad for us that we're losing him," said Graham. "Midlothian is really lucky to get him."
According to a statement posted on Midlothian ISD's website, the district must wait 21-days before Dr. Ledbetter can accept the job. It is a law district leaders and superintendent candidates must follow before offering or accepting a position.
Once Dr. Ledbetter signs his new contract, Graham ISD leaders will accept his resignation and appoint an interim superintendent.
"We have a pretty good track record of attracting good superintendent's here," said Graham. "So we'll start the process and get someone really good to replace him here in Graham."
Graham said the district currently has several good in-house candidates. However, he said before the board makes any decisions it will post the job opening, review candidate applications and wait a minimum of 10 days before hiring its next superintendent.
Midlothian ISD Board of Trustees are expected to vote on Dr. Ledbetters contract on May 7th.
