Vernon College Educates Students About College Education

Wichita Falls, TX - The end of the school year is almost here, and that means many students have to make some decisions about college.

Vernon College hosted GenTX Decision Day on Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot at the Century City Center in Wichita Falls.

Over 300 area high school juniors and seniors from 10 surrounding high schools participated in the event.

GenTX Decision Day is a statewide initiative to recognize high school seniors for their post-secondary plans and encourage younger students and families to prepare early for post-secondary education.

Vernon College departments, programs and organizations were on hand to talk with students about the opportunities available and the steps they need to take to further their education.

Games, prizes, food, and tours, as well as, a Reality Check put on by Region 9 and Vernon College student volunteers will take place during the event.  Two $500 Vernon College scholarships were also given at the event.

Vernon College Recruiter LeAnn Scharbrough stated, "This is our second year to host the event and we are looking forward to a great day! This gives students in our area a unique hands on opportunity to gain a better understanding of the programs and possibilities that VC offers after high school graduation. By hosting this event, we hope to create a very fun, positive experience and get them excited about the next step in their life."
