Iowa Park's Hale Signs with ACU Football

Iowa Park's Bailey Hale was better known as a basketball player than a football player in high school, but he'll take his talents to the gridiron for college.

He signed Thursday to be a kicker at Abilene Christian University, at the Division I FCS level.

He said he will take some reps in the fall at wide receiver, but primarily will compete as a placekicker, behind junior Nik Grau.

He also said the recruiting process came as a whirlwind.

"Coach Sims called them in spring," Hale said Thursday. "We were lifting weights in spring, and a couple weeks later we went down there, and now we're here. It all happened really fast, like two weeks, maybe."

He said he liked the feel in Abilene.

"I like the campus," he said. "I like the atmosphere there. You know, everything's purple, everybody's just-- it's a college town."
