Armed Robbery Suspect Caught on Fort Sill

Fort Sill, Oklahoma – The Lawton Police Department is investigating an armed robbery, and that  the suspect was caught on Fort Sill.

Lawton police say around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, a robbery occurred involving a gun and a stolen car. A chase ensued and the suspect is believed to be hiding in the trees on Fort Sill, north of Pioneer Park.

Fort Sill's Installation Operations Center received a report that an armed robbery suspect got out of his vehicle 1.5 miles north of Key Gate. The suspect is believed to be walking northeast of that location. Fort Sill says no shots have been fired on post.

The Fort Sill Department of Emergency Services is working with the Lawton Police Department to find the suspect. As a result, the security presence within the cantonment area has been increased as a precaution.

Lawton Public Schools has increased their security at Pioneer Park Elementary, MacArthur Middle School and MacArthur High School in response to the situation.

Police also received a report of shots being fired in the same neighborhood a few hours later, and a car was stopped that had a gun. It's unclear if the two incidents are related.

Fort Sill says the suspect was in custody at 12:45 p.m.
