Women Close Historic Season at #13 in ITA Rankings

Midwestern State closes its historic season at No. 13 in the final NCAA Division II rankings released Wednesday evening by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Mustangs advanced to the national quarterfinals for the first time in school history before bowing to No. 10 Southwest Baptist (Mo.) by a narrow 5-4 margin at the Surprise (Ariz.) Tennis and Racquet Club.

MSU rolled to an 18-7 record claiming its second consecutive Lone Star Conference championship along the way. The Mustangs also notched their first win at the national championship site rolling 12th-ranked California (Pa.), 5-1.

Midwestern boasted a 16-5 mark against NCAA Division II competition taking losses to No. 5 West Florida, No. 6 Saint Leo (Fla.), No. 12 St. Mary's and fell twice to No. 10 Southwest Baptist by 5-4 margins.

The Mustangs also took a pair of setbacks to Division I foes in SMU (5-2) and Texas State (4-3).

The No. 13 national ranking is the highest in program history.

Senior Taylor Coffman teamed with junior Kayla Casey to finish as the 17th-ranked doubles' squad in Division II. The duo notched a 15-7 record playing out of the No. 1 position.

Casey and Coffman headlined a group of four MSU players to carry regional rankings at Nos. 5 and 7 in the South Central. Junior Maddie Schorlemmer rated 11th at the No. 3 position, while sophomore Courtney Anderson was 13th at the No. 4 spot.

Casey and Coffman also carried the No. 3 doubles' ranking in the South Central, while juniors Lauren Pineda and Lindsay Nochowicz were ninth.

Men Finish 19th in Final ITA Standings

Midwestern State dropped seven spots to finish 19th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Rankings released Wednesday evening.

The Mustangs closed the season with a 16-6 record against a strong schedule before falling in the South Central Region I championship match to Cameron.

MSU fashioned a 7-1 mark against in-region teams and were 8-3 against nationally ranked program including victories over No. 12 Georgia College, No. 14 Drury (Mo.), No. 16 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.), No. 17 Northwest Missouri State and No. 18 Cameron (Okla.) which all finished ahead of the Mustangs in the final poll.

Midwestern was 12-3 against NCAA Division II competition including losses to No. 4 West Florida, No. 7 Saint Leo and No. 18 Cameron.

Senior Kacper Boborykin finished the season ranked 31st in the ITA national singles rankings, while junior Kyle Davidson ranked 33rd.

Boborykin posted a 14-8 record competing at the No. 1 position, while Davidson was 16-5 at the No. 2 spot.

The duo ranked second and third in the final South Central Region rankings followed by sophomores Ramon Toyos at No. 13 and Chris Norrie at No. 19.

Senior Tomas Grejtak combined with Toyos to claim a No. 25 national doubles ranking after posting a 15-4 record as a duo including a 6-3 run at the No. 1 spot.
