Allred Celebrates 20 Years

Workers at Allred celebrated a milestone today. Current and former wardens gathered to celebrate the prison's 20th anniversary.

Allred opened in the summer of 1995 and is one of the largest maximum security units in Texas, housing approximately 3600 offenders.

"This celebration is an opportunity for us to recognize the staff that are still here after 20 years and to kind of rekindle those bonds between us and the community," said Richard Wathen, Allred's Senior Warden.

The prison was named after James V. Allred, the Governor of Texas from 1935 to 1939.
