Wheat Field Fire Burns 250 Acres

250 acres were burned as multiple fire departments worked to get a large grass fire under control Thursday evening.

Just before 5:00 p.m. fire officials were called out to a wheat field that was ablaze just west of I-44.

Wichita Falls and Friberg-Cooper firefighters along with Burkburnett VFD were all on the scene.

Traffic was slowed on I-44 due to smoke just west of the highway.

There were no injuries. Officials said it took about an hour to get those flames under control, but firefighters stayed on the scene until 8:45 p.m. to monitor the field.

Officials say the cause was likely mechanical failure of some kind.
