Woman Arrested For Deadly Lawton Shooting

Lawton, Oklahoma - According to the Lawton Police Department, a woman was arrested for second-degree murder following a shooting Tuesday evening.

According to police, officers arrived at a home near Northwest 53rd and Oak Avenue and found Joseph Higgins had been shot in the upper torso.

Higgins was taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital, where he died shortly later from his wound.

LPD says Higgins' apparent girlfriend, Shainice Owens, told officers that she accidentally shot Higgins after they both grabbed a firearm. Owens told detectives they had been arguing before it turned physical.

Detectives arrested Owens on a second-degree murder complaint. Witnesses say she was covered in blood when she was taken into custody.
