Man Charged After Children Found Walking Toward Busy Highway

Wichita Falls, Texas - A man is behind bars after police say that children that were under his care were left alone by themselves, and were later discovered walking towards a busy highway.

According to police, on Monday, around 11:34 a.m., police were called to the Country Park Apartments located in the 5200 block of Professional Drive in response to two children walking unattended towards Archer City Highway.

Police made contact with the housing agency, who said a maintenance worker noticed the two toddlers, one 3-years-old and one 11-months-old, who were crying and screaming as they were walking around the complex. The housing agency said that they had been alone for at least 15 minutes.

22-year-old Jordan Turner was located, and Turner told police that he went downstairs to the laundry room and was there for five minutes. When Turner returned, he noticed the two children were missing.

However, the mother, who tasked Turner with watching the kids, returned home from work where noticed both Turner and the children were missing. She then started driving around the complex, where she saw Turner walking around the apartment complex with a Walmart bag in his hand.

Police believe Turner went to Walmart and left the children alone. Turner was charged with two counts of Abandoning or Endangering a Child.
