WFISD Board Members Propose Increasing Pay of Substitute Teachers

Wichita Falls, Texas - The Wichita Falls ISD Board of Trustees met Tuesday afternoon in a special session, where they made discussed changes being made.
Among the many items on their agenda was the budget for the upcoming school year, as well as changes concerning substitute teachers.
In the special session, board members proposed increasing the pay of substitute teachers and tutors. Certified substitutes would make $120 dollars a day, and uncertified substitutes would make $90 a day.
The board members also discussed changing the college requirements for potential substitutes.
“They didn't get a chance, they didn't have the money, and they didn't have the opportunity to go to college. But they are smart people, and they are people who are confident and who have kid skills,” said WFISD School Board President Trey Sralla. “We obviously want to make sure there are some minimal standards as far as that goes, but just because you've been to college that doesn't mean you know how to deal with kids.”
WFISD board members will vote on the issues in upcoming meetings. Stay with Newschannel 6 as we bring you more updates to this story.
