Wichita Falls, Texas - Two men from Arizona are behind bars following the discovery of over 20 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle.
According to the arrest affidavit, on August 11th, a DPS Trooper observed a Honda Civic with Arizona license plates speeding on Highway 287 around 8:15 p.m.
The trooper stopped the vehicle, which was driven by 35-year-old Jason Benjamin Burke (left). The trooper asked Burke for consent to search the Civic, and Burke refused.
The passenger, 55-year-old Phillip Matthew Jenkins, was also asked for consent to search the vehicle and he also refused.
A DPS K9 handler and the K9 arrived, and the K9 alerted to the odor of drugs, which gave DPS probable cause to search the vehicle.
Authorities say they found three large suitcases filled with several packages believed to be marijuana in the trunk. The substance tested positive for marijuana, and was later weighed to be around 28 pounds.
Both men have been charged with Possession of Marijuana Over 5 lbs Under 50 lbs. They are currently being held in the Wichita County Jail.
