MSU Football Gets Votes in AFCA Poll

Midwestern State received votes in the American Football Coaches' Association Preseason Division II Poll released Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs finished its Lone Star Conference best 15th consecutive winning campaign closing the 2014 season with a 6-4 record.

Midwestern is one of 13 teams from the rugged Super Region Four to receive mention in the poll joining No. Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 5 Ferris State (Mich.), No. 8 Ohio Dominican, No. 13 Angelo State (Texas), No. 18 Colorado Mines, No. 22 Texas A&M-Commerce and No. 24 Grand Valley State (Mich.).

Michigan Tech, Ashland (Ohio), West Texas A&M, MSU, Wayne State (Mich.) and Tarleton State (Texas) are also receiving votes.

Minnesota State-Mankato tops the poll after receiving nine first-place votes followed by defending national champion Colorado State-Pueblo, who received a poll-high 16 first-place votes.

Minnesota-Duluth (3 first-place votes), West Georgia (3 first-place votes) and Northwest Missouri State (1 first-place vote) finish off the first five.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Ferris State (Mich.), Pittsburg State (Kan.), Ohio Dominican, Concord (W. Va.) and Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.).

Midwestern State opens the 2015 campaign playing host to Truman State (Mo.) on Sept. 5 at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
