City Council Approves Proposal to Increase Property Tax

Property taxes in Wichita Falls could be going up.

During the city council meeting on Tuesday, council members voted to consider an increase.

The current property tax rate for Wichita Falls is just over 65 cents per $100 of assessed value.

After getting a lengthy city budget overview, council members considered raising the rates to 70 cents.  For a $100,000 home that would be approximately a $50 increase per year.

Since the proposed tax rate is different, two public hearings have to be held.  Those will be on September 1st and September 8th.
On September 15th, council members are expected to vote on the proposed rate.
