Murder Suspect Held in Vernon Mental Hospital for Six Months

Houston, Texas - A man suspected of being involved in the death of a Harris County sheriff's Deputy was held in a Texoma mental hospital in 2012.

In 2012, suspected gunman Shannon Miles was found to be mentally incompetent to stand trial for a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the weapon being his hands, according to Travis County prosecutor Jon Frederick.

Fredrerick said Miles was sent to Vernon State Mental Hospital for six months, where he was then determined to be competent, but once Miles was released, prosecutors couldn't find the homeless man he was accused of assaulting.

Miles is currently facing a capital murder charge.
