Grass Fire Forces Evacuations In Wichita County

UPDATE: The Wichita County Sheriff's Office officials believe that the cause of the fire was someone burning trash.

9/8/15: All roads are back open Tuesday night in Wichita County. Residents are also returning home, and the fire is under control in Iowa Park. The fire started at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the 1400 block of Iowa Park Road. Various agencies were battling the fire including Wichita Falls, Iowa Park and Burkburnett.

One accident happened as a result of the grass fire on Highway 287. It involved one semi-trailer truck and a small car. The thick smoke covering the highway was a contributing factor to the crash.

Officials say they are evacuating residents on Bell Road and North Peterson Road. Officials are closing Highway 287, northbound and southbound, between Peterson and Bell Road near Iowa Park, Texas due to a large grass fire.
