Mustangs Win Strohman Dental/MSU Stampede

Midwestern State enjoyed a stellar start to the 2015 campaign claiming a win at the Strohman Dental/MSU Stampede Thursday night at Lake Wichita Park.

The Mustangs outdistanced a field which included Bacone (Okla.), Texas-Permian Basin and Oklahoma Panhandle State by scoring a total of 17 points.

Freshman Bridget Reilly entered the chute first for MSU, but no other information was available at the time of this story.

"We came in with the same mindset as last week," MSU coach Koby Styles said. "We wanted to represent Midwestern to the fullest. We wanted to put on a good show for the home crowd and we were able to do that."

MSU used the race to turn out a tempo run workout to pack up and claim a win in an event the program has won each of the last six years.

"It was hot and I was proud of the way they stuck out the conditions," Styles said. "With the heat, you just can't look at the times but you have to make sure you are outworking your opponent and just grind it out."

The Mustangs compete in the first 6K event of the season on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the West Texas A&M Invitational in Canyon.

Complete results should be posted later tonight at
